Fred is approximately 16 years old. Fred was discovered in a backyard emaciated. His only food source was his fecal matter. Fred had numerous injuries including several to his skull. Fred was near death. Other rescues said to put him down. Fred’s eyes said different. Fred was over 800 lbs under weight. Fred was saved by Great Spirit Animal Sanctuary and their fosters. They knew he wanted to live. He has a long road to his recovery, but Fred is now a member of the herd and thriving more and more as each day passes.

Fred never has to worry about not having food or care ever again. Fred was saved in early 2018 and moved to the Sanctuary on Christmas in 2018.

Romeo was found walking along a road in the desert. Upon being rescued it was discovered that Romeo was previously living in a small 10 x 10 pen for several years. Romeo was no longer useful to his owners. Romeo had a back injury and can no longer be ridden or used as a roping horse.

Romeo now has a permanent home for life at Great Spirit Animal Sanctuary. He never has to be worried about being in a locked pen again. Romeo arrived on Thanksgiving in 2018 Romeo is approximately 14 years old and we’re hoping he’ll live at least another 14 at the Sanctuary.

Juliette is a youngster yet at approximately 2 years old. Juliette was being ridden daily for rides. Due to the over excessiveness of being ridden at a very young age, she has developed bone on bone injuries to her legs. Juliette can no longer ever be ridden.

Juliette has found a permanent home for the remaining years of her life at Great Spirit Animal Sanctuary. She never has to worry about being abused again. Juliette arrived at the Sanctuary on Thanksgiving in 2018.

Hamilton being rescued

Hamilton was rescued in 2020. He lived his life at a charter school before it closed. Unfortunately while he lived at the school his caretakers didn’t feed him an appropriate diet. Because of the inadequate diet Hamilton now experiences numerous medical issues with his mouth and teeth and requires proper supplements and feed.

Levi loves to play ball

Levi was rescued on 2.10.2020 from Maricopa County Animal Control. Levi was unfortunately given a death sentence. Levi was an owner surrender after biting his owner who attempted to grab a baby toy from him while he was eating. Levi is a border collie mix and was only 1 year old when he was rescued. Today Levi has made a remarkable improvement. He enjoys playing ball and tug of war with his new best friend Scout.

Buckshot

Buckshot

Buckshot was rescued on. He was an owner surrender. Unfortunately Buckshot became blind and his owners couldn’t provide him the necessary care. His owners wanted him to live his life with other horses during his final chapter of life. They loved Buckshot for many years and didn’t want to keep him penned without proper interactions daily. They needed him to go to a Sanctuary where he would get the needed help he needs to thrive. Buckshot has already adapted well and has begun to bond with horses like Fred who is also going blind. Buckshot also admires his new girlfriend Dallas. You’ll see her guiding him around the pastures after lunch daily.

Jake and Marbels (Brothers)

Jake and Marbels (Brothers)

Jake and Marbels were owner surrenders. They became too large for their owner to handle. They were kept penned in a building. They needed a permanent place to call home as they were in danger of being slaughtered.

Edgar

Edgar

Edgar was rescued on with Raven from Scottsdale AZ. Their owners became hospitalized and was unable to care for them. A caring neighbor found them needing desperate care and food. Their owners surrendered to the Sanctuary saving them from being euthanized. Raven unfortunately passed away shortly after being rescued, she wasn’t able to recover from her condition.

Scout

Scout

Scout arrived at the Sanctuary on and originated from Florida where he was rescued. He was relocated to Arizona with his owner. Unfortunately Scout had some behavioral issues and his owner could not find a home that would allow them to keep him because of his issues. Scout's new best friend at the Sanctuary is Levi.
